Protect Wenlock Edge Quarries

The National Trust are trying to acquire three disused quarries at Wenlock Edge to save their geology and wildlife and to allow more people to enjoy this spectacular countryside. However, a new planning application is jeopardising this vision.

LongMynd-Trail-repair
Trail Maintenance

Last week we had a trail maintenance day hosted by the National Trust in Carding Mill Valley.

Working on the permissive bridleway that links the valley to the golf course the objective was to improve visibility for trail users. This was achieved by cutting back the gorse and bracken plus introducing a passing place on the narrow trail.

The weather was good as was the turnout of local trail users. Watch this space for future trail digging days.

Winter time Soft trails
The trails are turning soggy, slippy wet grass and soft muddy conditions. Please stick to the main trails to minimise damage, and ride through, rather than round, puddles to prevent the trails widening.

Minton Batch Storm Damage 
At the bottom of Minton Batch a couple of parts of the trail have been claimed by the stream plus ruts are deep and wide in places: Ride with caution.

Top of the Batch Soft conditions
At the top of Batch Valley near Jinlye conditions remain boggy, keep to the board walk to protect the trail getting wider and cut up.

 

Portway
Near Shooting box the trail is getting wide and soft. Note this is an ancient monument, that mound is an old burial mound. Please don't be tempted to ride round the puddles you will only make the trail wider.

 

Portway trail linking Pole Bank to Pole cottage is also getting wide, please try and stick to the main track.

Minton_batch_rut

Wide bars and narrow trails, thats the dream. Respect the trails and ride through not around that can widen the trails.
