Things to know about riding the Long Mynd

Get a map

The Long Mynd is not a trail centre: which means you won’t find yourself in a queue of riders slowly progressing along a red run but you will need a little bit of navigational skill and an idea of where your heading to find your way but the pay off comes with the natural singletrack that you will have all to yourself. Until we can publish a dedicated MTB trail map the best bet is an OS Explorer 217 The Long Mynd and Wenlock Edge, also the National Trusts access map gives a good idea of the trails.

Take a jacket

The Long Mynd does not have many trees! Which means great views but when the weather turns and the wind and rain starts you will be pushed to find shelter so bring a jacket, it can be a pleasant day on the square but blowing a gale at Pole Cottage.

Follow the trails

Keep it to the bridleways and permissive routes. We have listed and plotted some of the best legal routes on and around the Long Mynd, as you explore you will no doubt see plenty of enticing singletrack but please keep to the trails. We share these fantastic natural trails with walkers and horse riders so please play fair. If you’re not sure where you can ride just ask or check out an OS map.

Before you ride call in for a brew and trail and weather information, we can give your bike a free safety check if it’s not running just right and sort you out a tune up. Happy trails.

Where to Start

The best place to start a ride is in Church Stretton where you will find plenty of shops and cafe’s for any trail supplies.

The majority of visitors and cyclists travel to Church Stretton by car, pay and display parking can be found in one of the town centres car parks or at the National Trusts car park at Cardingmill Valley.
